AI is Great… Sometimes.
AI is pretty incredible.
Give it a few words and suddenly you've got a gorgeous ring sitting on your screen, complete with the perfect gemstone, intricate bands and a setting that looks like it belongs in a jewellery magazine.
And honestly? AI can be a fantastic tool for inspiration.
Want to explore a style you've never considered? See what a marquise might look like in a particular setting? Play around with different colours, shapes and design ideas? Absolutely!
But there's one little problem…
AI doesn't actually have to make the jewellery. We do.
And that's where things can get interesting.
One of the biggest issues we see with AI-generated jewellery designs is proportion. AI can create a beautiful-looking ring around a gemstone that exists only in its imagination. But the stone you bring us might be a completely different size, shape or depth. Change the proportions of the centre stone, and suddenly the entire ring looks different.
Then there's wearability.
AI isn't particularly concerned about whether you're going to catch your finger on something every time you put your hand in your pocket. We've seen designs where one band mysteriously doesn't quite connect to the other, or where a delicate little piece of metal is floating around doing… well, we're not entirely sure what.
It might look fantastic on a screen, but we'd rather not have you accidentally stabbed by your own jewellery.
And then there's settings.
AI doesn't understand that a single tiny claw at the very tip of a marquise gemstone isn't exactly the most reassuring way to secure a stone you're planning to wear every day.
Or that two claws aren't necessarily going to be enough to safely hold a precious gemstone in place.
That's the difference between designing something that looks good and designing something that actually works.
So by all means, bring us your AI-generated inspiration! We love seeing what you've come up with, and it can be a fantastic starting point for a conversation.
Just don't be surprised if we look at it and say:
"Okay… let's make that actually wearable."
Because AI can dream up the pretty pictures.
We make sure the jewellery survives real life.

Something Old, Something Loved, Something New
Some pieces of jewellery carry a little more weight than others.
This story began with jewellery that had belonged to his mum. After she passed away, he held onto those pieces for some time - not quite ready to part with them, but also not sure what he wanted to do with them.
And then there was his signet ring.
That one had been gifted to him by his grandmother, making it another deeply sentimental piece with its own story and history.
These weren’t simply pieces of jewellery. They were little pieces of family.
Eventually, he decided he wanted to create something that would allow him to actually wear those memories with him.
A family member recommended that he come and see us, and there was just one small detail… he lives interstate!
So he made the trip to see us, bringing these incredibly sentimental pieces along with him.
Together, we worked out a way to transform the jewellery he had been holding onto into something new - something wearable, meaningful and completely his.
Because repurposing sentimental jewellery isn’t about replacing the past.
It’s about carrying it forward.
The original pieces may have had their own stories, but now they get to become part of a new one - keeping the people and memories behind them close, every time he wears his new piece.
And honestly, we think that’s one of the most beautiful things you can do with jewellery that means the world to you.

Not Your Ordinary Wedding Ring 💚
We’ve had the absolute pleasure of making a wedding set for one half of this lovely couple… and now, it was time to create something just as special for the other half!
For this ring, we had something truly sentimental to work with: a gorgeous green sapphire that had been passed down through generations. Rather than letting it sit tucked away, we transformed it into something that could be worn, loved and celebrated every single day.
Handmade in white gold, this ring is definitely not your typical wedding ring - but then again, this is definitely not your typical couple!
They’re loud and proud about their love, and honestly? As they should be. ❤️ They wanted their rings to represent that love, their personalities and the fact that there really aren't any rules when it comes to what a wedding ring "should" look like.
And we couldn't agree more.
In fact, we love the idea of taking two rings you've never worn and turning them into something you absolutely dream of wearing every day - then declaring it your wedding ring. Why not? Jewellery is sentimental, but it's also meant to be worn. If something already carries meaning, why not give it a new chapter?
And speaking of doing things a little differently…
You might notice something new about our photo today. 👀
After years of photographing our pieces in a very similar style, we decided it was time to shake things up a little. The jewellery is still the star of the show, but we've started experimenting with Polaroids - taking our pieces out into the beautiful Redlands and using the local scenery as their backdrop.
Which brings us to our new little challenge…
Can you guess where we took this Polaroid?
The piece might be the main attraction, but the Redlands is getting a supporting role.
Keep an eye on our socials, have a guess in the comments, and let's see who knows their local spots best! 💚

True or False
You Can Clean Jewellery With Toothpaste 🪥💍
We've heard some interesting jewellery cleaning hacks over the years.
And this one seems to come up ALL. THE. TIME.
"Just put a little toothpaste on it and give it a scrub. It'll come up sparkling!"
Sounds harmless enough, right?
After all, toothpaste makes your teeth shiny. Jewellery is shiny. Surely that's just science? 😂
But before you raid the bathroom cupboard and start giving your favourite ring a good brushing… maybe don't.
Or do. 👀
We're not telling you the answer just yet.
So here's today's Jewellers Vault True or False:
🪥 YOU CAN CLEAN JEWELLERY WITH TOOTHPASTE.
TRUE OR FALSE?
Drop your answer below 👇
And no Googling. We know you're tempted. 😉

When the Time Was Right
Some jewellery stories are about milestones, others are about sentimental pieces passed down through generations. And then there are the stories that unfold slowly, through years of conversations, repairs and getting to know the person behind the jewellery.
We’ve seen this client quite a few times over the years for various repairs, and somewhere along the way, I like to think we developed a little friendship.
During one of our conversations, she mentioned that she’s an avid martial artist. Not just someone who trains casually - she competes, she coaches and she trains. It’s clearly a huge part of her life.
She showed me a silver pendant that she absolutely adored, a piece connected to her martial arts journey. We chatted about the possibility of recreating it in gold using some of her own metal. It was an idea she loved, but life got busy and, as these things sometimes do, the project went onto the backburner.
Until one day, she walked through our doors and announced that the time had finally come.
She arrived with her much-loved silver pendant and a collection of old gold jewellery that no longer had a purpose for her. Together, we gave that old gold a completely new purpose - transforming it into a beautiful gold recreation of the pendant she already loved!
And that's one of our favourite things about what we do.
It wasn't about buying something new. It was about taking something meaningful, something that already represented a part of her life, and creating it again in a material that felt even more special.
Her martial arts journey continues, and now she has a gold version of a pendant that means so much to her - made using gold that had been sitting unused, waiting for its next chapter.
Sometimes the best jewellery isn't the jewellery you buy.
It's the jewellery you already love, reinvented for the life you're living now.
