9ct vs 18ct Gold - What’s the Difference, Really? ✨
When it comes to choosing gold for a jewellery piece, one of the most common questions we hear is:
“Should I go 9ct or 18ct?”
Before we compare them, here’s a fun little fact…
All gold starts life as 24ct gold - which is pure gold. But pure gold is very soft, which makes it impractical for everyday jewellery. So, other metals (called alloys) are mixed in to create gold that’s stronger, more durable, and better suited to being worn and loved.
That’s where 9ct and 18ct gold come in.
9ct gold contains a smaller percentage of pure gold and more alloy metals. This makes it harder and more scratch-resistant, which can be great for pieces that take a lot of daily wear and tear.
18ct gold contains a higher percentage of pure gold. Because of this, it’s denser, richer in colour, and a little softer than 9ct. Many people love 18ct gold for its luxurious feel and warm tone.
So… which is better?
Honestly - neither. They’re just different, and the “best” option often comes down to how the piece will be worn.
For example:
💍 A ring is constantly bumping into things, so a more scratch-resistant metal like 9ct can make a lot of sense.
✨ A pendant or necklace doesn’t experience nearly as much impact, so 18ct gold can be a beautiful choice.
It’s not about right or wrong - it’s about choosing what suits you, your lifestyle, and the piece you’re creating.
And if you’re ever unsure? That’s what we’re here for.

A Disc Pendant - But Make It Personal ✨
It all started the way so many great jewellery stories do… scrolling online.
After spotting a few disc pendants popping up everywhere, this client couldn’t get them out of her head. There was just one problem - they all looked the same. Beautiful, yes… but not hers.
She knew she wanted a disc pendant, but she wanted something with personality. Something handmade. Something that felt a little imperfect in the best possible way.
Enter: a hand-hammered disc pendant.
By hammering the surface by hand, no two marks are ever the same. The light catches differently with every movement, creating texture, depth, and that unmistakable handmade feel. It’s subtle, but once you notice it, you can’t unsee it.
The result? A timeless piece with a modern edge - minimal, but far from plain. A pendant that tells its own quiet story, and one that’s just as unique as the person wearing it.
Because sometimes, it’s not about following a trend… it’s about making it your own.

January’s Birthstone - Garnet ❤️
January babies, this one’s for you.
Garnet is best known for its rich, deep red tones - but this gemstone is far more versatile than most people realise! In fact, garnet comes in a rainbow of colours, from fiery oranges and vibrant greens to soft pinks and purples. The classic red garnet, though, remains a favourite for good reason.
Historically, garnet has been associated with protection, strength, and loyalty. Ancient travellers believed it would light the way in the dark, while others wore it as a symbol of enduring love and friendship. Today, it’s still seen as a stone of passion and grounding - perfect for kicking off the year with confidence and intention.
One of our favourite things about garnet is how wearable it is. It pairs beautifully with yellow, white, and rose gold, works effortlessly in both modern and vintage designs, and suits everyday jewellery just as well as statement pieces.
Whether you’re a January baby, celebrating an anniversary, or simply drawn to its bold beauty, garnet is a gemstone that tells a story - and we love nothing more than bringing those stories to life through handmade jewellery.

That’s a Wrap on 2025 ✨
And just like that… 2025 is done and dusted!
What a year it’s been here at Jewellers Vault. A year filled with heartfelt stories, sentimental melts, meaningful redesigns, and so many beautiful faces walking through our doors. From everyday keepsakes to once-in-a-lifetime pieces, each creation carried a story - and we were lucky enough to be trusted with them.
We shared laughs, happy tears, and a few proud moments along the way (including the odd awards night — still pinching ourselves). Every piece we created this year reminded us why we do what we do: to turn memories into something tangible, wearable, and loved for generations.
This little recap is just a snapshot of the magic that passed through the Vault in 2025. To every client who trusted us with their gold, their stories, and their milestones - thank you. We couldn’t do this without you.
Here’s to a well-earned rest, a fresh start, and whatever beautiful stories 2026 has in store. 🥂
