Things Your Jewellery Wishes You’d Stop Doing 💍😂
Your jewellery loves you.
It really does.
But if your rings, earrings and bracelets could talk, there are a few things they’d probably like to have a little… chat about.
Because jewellery may be pretty, but it isn't indestructible. And some of the things we casually do every day can cause more wear and tear than you might realise.
So, on behalf of your jewellery, here are a few things it would very much like you to stop doing.
🌱 STOP: Gardening in your good jewellery
Your ring doesn't want to come gardening.
It doesn't want to meet the soil.
It doesn't want to wrestle with a hedge.
And it definitely doesn't want to discover what happens when a shovel meets a ring.
Dirt and grit can work their way into settings, while knocks and pressure can bend bands or damage stones.
Your garden can survive without your jewellery's supervision. We promise.
💤 STOP: Sleeping in your jewellery
We know it's convenient.
You put it on in the morning, forget it's there, and eventually realise you've been wearing the same ring for approximately 47 consecutive days.
But sleeping in jewellery puts it through unnecessary rubbing, pressure and catching. Chains can tangle, settings can get knocked, and rings can take a surprising amount of wear overnight.
Give your jewellery a bedtime too.
💨 STOP: Spraying perfume directly onto it
Perfume, hairspray, lotions and other cosmetics can build up on jewellery and may affect some metals, finishes and gemstones over time.
The general rule?
Beauty products first. Jewellery second.
Your perfume can have the spotlight. Your necklace can go on afterwards.
💎 STOP: Ignoring a loose stone
If your diamond starts doing a little wiggle in its setting, that's not it being playful.
That's your jewellery saying:
“HELLO. I HAVE A PROBLEM.”
A loose stone can become a lost stone if it's ignored, so it's worth getting checked before the tiny wiggle turns into a very expensive game of hide and seek.
🫣 STOP: Waiting until something is REALLY broken
A tiny crack, worn claw or slightly bent ring might seem harmless.
Until it isn't.
Jewellery generally gives you warning signs before something completely fails. Getting those little problems checked early can sometimes prevent a much bigger repair later.
🧡 And finally… STOP: Keeping jewellery you love hidden in a drawer
Okay, this one isn't technically bad for your jewellery.
But we're adding it anyway.
If you have beautiful old jewellery sitting unworn because it's outdated, doesn't fit, doesn't suit your style anymore or simply isn't you…
It might not need to stay there forever.
Old jewellery can often be repaired, redesigned, combined with other pieces, or given a completely new life.
Because jewellery was made to be worn - not to spend its retirement at the bottom of a jewellery box.
Your jewellery has spoken.
Please stop traumatising it. 😂

Not every make comes with a story… and that's okay!
We love a sentimental jewellery story.
The heirloom piece passed down through generations. The engagement ring that no longer fits. A collection of jewellery holding years of memories.
But sometimes? There’s no big emotional backstory at all.
Sometimes a client simply comes to us with two things:
“I really want this…”
and
“I have all of this old jewellery that I never wear.”
And honestly, that’s a pretty good combination.
That’s exactly what happened with this lovely client!
She had a collection of old jewellery sitting around, unworn and unloved, but she also had a vision for something she actually wanted. So rather than letting those old pieces continue gathering dust in the jewellery box, we put them to good use.
We combined what she had with what she wanted and created something completely new.
No dramatic family history. No secret meaning hidden behind every stone. No jewellery passed down from a great-great-aunt you never actually met.
Just old jewellery getting a brand-new purpose.
And we think that's pretty special too.
Because jewellery shouldn't have to sit in a drawer simply because you feel guilty getting rid of it. If you don't wear it, don't love it, and can't quite bring yourself to throw it away, why not transform it into something you will wear?
Sometimes the best story starts with:
“I’ve got all this old stuff… can we make it into something better?”
The answer is usually: Absolutely!

You may see a mess… but we see magic ✨
A jewellery workbench in the middle of a repair probably doesn’t look particularly glamorous.
There’s metal, tools, tiny bits of jewellery, files, pliers, polishing equipment - and probably a few things that make absolutely no sense to anyone who isn’t a jeweller!
But this is where the magic happens.
Behind every repaired clasp, resized ring, rebuilt setting or restored piece of sentimental jewellery is a workbench that has seen a lot of action.
What looks like a pile of tools and jewellery to the untrained eye is actually a jeweller’s carefully controlled chaos. Every tool has a purpose, every mark tells part of the story, and every tiny adjustment brings a piece of jewellery one step closer to being ready to wear again.
And sometimes, the repair itself is the easy part.
The real challenge is knowing exactly how much to alter without compromising the original piece. Jewellery can be delicate, sentimental and irreplaceable - so there’s no room for simply giving something a quick fix and hoping for the best.
That’s why our workbench might look a little chaotic…
…but there’s a whole lot of skill happening amongst the mess. 🔨✨
So next time you see a jeweller hunched over a bench surrounded by tools, don’t worry.

The Ring She Fell In Love With… That She Couldn’t Actually Wear
This client came to us with two rings she already owned - both hinged, both with their own little problems.
One was too big. One was too small. And, to make matters worse, neither one really felt like her anymore.
Then she found a design online.
And she fell hard.
There was just one problem…
She can only wear hinged rings.
And the ring she had fallen in love with? No hinge.
She briefly considered buying it anyway and bringing it to us afterwards to see if we could add one. But the more she thought about it, the more risky that seemed. There was no guarantee the ring would be suitable for a hinge conversion, and she wasn't prepared to spend money on a ring she might never actually be able to wear.
But she wasn't ready to give up on her dream ring either.
So she brought us her two old hinged rings, her inspiration picture, and a simple question:
Could we use the gold from her old rings, add the extra stones needed, and make this design work for her?
Of course we could!
But there was another challenge hiding in that little word: hinge.
A hinged ring needs to open and close smoothly, sit comfortably, look seamless when it's being worn, and - most importantly - actually work reliably.
So we researched.
We experimented.
We tried.
We failed.
We tried again.
And again.
Because when you're making something from scratch, sometimes the most important part isn't the pretty bit everyone sees. It's the tiny piece of engineering hiding underneath it.
Eventually, we got it.
A hinge that worked beautifully, integrated neatly into the design, and allowed our client to finally wear the ring she'd fallen in love with.
Her old, unworn rings were given a completely new life, her sentimental gold was kept in the family story, and an online inspiration became something made specifically for her.
Because that's the beauty of having your jewellery made by your jeweller.
You don't always have to choose between what you can wear and what you love.
Sometimes, we can figure out how to make the two become the same thing. 💎

Would You Choose Sapphire If It Wasn't Your Birthstone?
September gets to claim sapphire as its birthstone.
But here's the thing…
Would you choose sapphire if you weren't born in September?
Because while blue sapphire might be the first thing that comes to mind, sapphire is actually one of those gemstones that refuses to be put in a box.
Blue? Absolutely.
But pink? Yep.
Yellow? Definitely.
Green, purple, orange, colourless… even some seriously unusual colour combinations? Sapphire has a whole wardrobe of colours hiding up its sleeve.
And that's one of the things we love about it.
There's also something wonderfully rebellious about choosing a sapphire simply because you love it - not because a calendar told you to.
Maybe you love that deep, inky blue.
Maybe you want something a little different from a traditional diamond.
Maybe you've fallen completely in love with a particular sapphire and nothing else compares.

And here's another reason sapphire has earned its place in the jewellery world: it's tough.
Sapphire ranks 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness, second only to diamond among the traditional jewellery gemstones. That makes it a fantastic choice for pieces that are going to be worn regularly - including engagement rings and wedding rings.
But perhaps our favourite thing about sapphire?
No two are quite the same.
The colour, inclusions, zoning and personality of each natural sapphire can make it feel like its own tiny work of art. And sometimes, it's those little quirks that make a stone unforgettable.
