Sentimental Stones, Bold Decisions: A Custom Ring With Heart

Some jewellery projects are about design. Others are about emotion. This one? It was about both 😍

Our client came to us with a collection of deeply sentimental stones—each one representing a moment, a memory, or a loved one. They’d sat in her jewellery box for too long, waiting for the right idea. She also had a ring she no longer wore, and she had decided it was finally time to bring everything back to life in one meaningful design.

The hardest part? The layout.

Each stone had its own personality—some were subtle variations of the same tone, while two in particular stood out with rich, unique hues. Rather than try to blend them in, our client made a bold and beautiful decision: to place those two standout stones front and centre.

"I don’t want to hide them,” she told us. “They’re gorgeous, and they deserve the spotlight.”

We agreed completely!

The remaining six stones—more alike in colour—were carefully balanced, three on each side of the central pair. The result is a ring that flows in harmony, yet allows each stone to shine in its own light. It’s claw set by choice—delicate yet secure, allowing each gem to glow without distraction.

This ring is more than just beautiful. It’s a timeline of love, life, and legacy, worn with pride.

Caught Just in Time – A Claw Repair That Saved a Stone

When our lovely client visited us recently with a handful of jewellery repairs, she almost forgot to mention her favourite ring. As she chatted to us about her other pieces, she remembered that one of the claws on her beloved ring had started catching on her clothing.

Curious and concerned, she asked if we could take a quick look to see what might be wrong. A quick inspection revealed more than she expected—not just one, but all six claws on her ring were severely worn down, putting her precious stone at serious risk of falling out.

We immediately showed her the damage up close using our microscope, so she could see exactly what was happening. It's always important to us that our clients understand the 'why' behind our recommendations, and in this case, it was crystal clear: her stone wasn’t being held securely at all.

Making Peace with Peridot🌿

With the start of August comes a new birthstone in the spotlight— peridot!

Now, I have a confession: peridot is my birthstone... and for as long as I can remember, I’ve kind of hated it. That bright lime green? Not exactly my vibe. I used to envy friends with sapphires, rubies, or even opals (sigh). But over time, I’ve come to learn a few things about this quirky little gem—and dare I say, I don’t hate it quite so much anymore.

Here are a few things that might make you see peridot in a new light too:

💚 It’s one of the only gems that comes in just one colour! That signature green hue? It’s natural, not the result of impurities like most other gems. The slight colour variations you see are due to iron content.

🌌 Peridot has been found in space. Yep—peridot crystals have been discovered in meteorites. That’s pretty metal (literally).

🌋 It forms in lava! Most peridot on Earth is formed deep within the mantle and brought to the surface through volcanic activity. So if you’re rocking a peridot, you’re essentially wearing a piece of the planet’s fiery core.

👑 It was mistaken for emeralds in Cleopatra’s collection! Some historians now believe many of her "emeralds" were actually peridots.

So while I still might not be decking myself out in bright green everything, I’ve grown a little softer on peridot. It's a stone with history, mystery, and just the right amount of edge—kind of like the August babies it's linked to.

A Symbol Reimagined — Honouring the Past with a Personal Touch

This gorgeous client got married, and like many brides, she remembers the day as one of the happiest of her life — full of love, laughter, and meaning. But in the time that followed, there was one small symbol of that day she wanted to adjust… her wedding ring.

Originally, she wore a family heirloom — a slim gold band passed down through generations. It held deep sentimental value and memories from many marriages before hers. But while she cherished its history, she hoped to add a touch of her own to the design.

With her engagement ring in hand, she asked us to reimagine her wedding ring. She envisioned something that still honoured the original piece but complemented the rounder and more delicate profile of her engagement ring.

So, we got to work. We melted down her memory-filled heirloom and reshaped it into a slightly thinner, more rounded band — a perfect match for her engagement ring.

Now, both rings sit side by side — one symbolising her family’s legacy, the other a reflection of her unique love story. A perfect blend of past and present. 💛
