Welcome to February, friends!

Today, we take a look at February’s birthstone, Amethyst - a gemstone that proves strength and beauty can absolutely coexist.

Known for its rich purple hues, amethyst has been treasured for centuries. Historically, it was believed to symbolise clarity, protection, and calm (something we could all use a little more of). Today, it’s loved just as much for its versatility - soft and romantic in pale lilac tones, or bold and regal in deep violet shades.

Amethyst suits just about every jewellery style. It can be the star of the show in a statement ring, add elegance to a pendant, or bring a subtle pop of colour to everyday pieces. Whether set in yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold, it never fails to stand out.

If you were born in February, this stone is said to reflect creativity, balance, and inner strength - but honestly, you don’t need a February birthday to fall in love with it. Amethyst is one of those stones that feels timeless, meaningful, and effortlessly beautiful no matter the occasion.

After a long, happy marriage, this wedding ring had definitely earned its character. Years of love, hard work, hand-holding, and everyday life had left it a little thinner, a little softer, and very well-lived-in.

But while the ring had seen better days… the wife was staying put 😜

Rather than starting fresh, our client came to us with the perfect solution: let’s beef it up using family gold that actually means something. Gold passed down through generations, full of stories, memories, and sentiment - the best kind of material to work with.

His brief?
“Please make it twice as wide, thicker… and can we add 3 diamonds???”
Say less.

We rebuilt the band to be stronger, wider, and more substantial - a ring that truly reflects a marriage that’s stood the test of time. The addition of three diamonds gave it just the right amount of sparkle (because after all these years, a little extra shine never hurts).

The end result is a ring that still tells the same love story - just louder, prouder, and built to last for many more years to come. Proof that sometimes, you don’t replace what you love… you simply make it stronger.

Myth: Platinum and White Gold Are Practically the Same Thing

It’s a common assumption that we hear both in and out of the studio: “Platinum and white gold are basically the same, right?”

They might look similar at first glance, but in reality, they’re very different metals - and understanding those differences can make a big impact on how your jewellery wears over time.

White gold is made by mixing yellow gold with other metals to lighten its colour. Most white gold jewellery is then coated in rhodium, a bright white metal that gives it that crisp, mirror-like finish. Over time, this plating naturally wears away, revealing a warmer tone underneath, which is why white gold needs periodic re-plating to maintain its colour.

Platinum, on the other hand, is naturally white. It doesn’t rely on plating for its colour, so it won’t yellow or fade. Instead of wearing away, platinum develops a soft patina over time - a gentle, matte sheen that many people love for its character and lived-in feel.

There’s also a difference in weight and density. Platinum is heavier and denser than white gold, which often makes it feel more substantial on the hand. It’s incredibly durable and holds stones very securely, making it a popular choice for engagement rings and everyday wear.

So while platinum and white gold can look similar on day one, they age differently, feel different, and suit different lifestyles.

The right choice isn’t about which metal is “better” - it’s about which one fits you, your lifestyle, and how you want your jewellery to wear over time.

Myth: Platinum and W

Twin granddaughters… twin bangles… a lifetime of memories.
Over the years, these two young ladies were each gifted beautiful bangles - tokens of love from their adoring grandparents. But like many well-loved pieces, time had taken its toll. The bangles were worn, damaged, and no longer held their original shape. Still, what they carried was far more valuable than gold alone: years of memories, milestones, and meaning.

With their twin granddaughters’ 18th birthday approaching, their grandparents wanted to give them something truly special. Not just new jewellery… but something that honoured the past while celebrating the future.

The perfect idea? To create a brand new bangle for each granddaughter - made from their original ones.

The old bangles were carefully melted down and re-crafted into two stunning new pieces, each one carrying the same sentimental value, history, and love - now renewed for a new chapter of life.

Because jewellery isn’t just something you wear.

It’s something you live in.

And when it’s re-imagined, the stories don’t disappear… they continue. ✨

What would you do with a jewellery box full of old rings you no longer wear?

Let them gather dust? Repurpose the gold and end up with a bag of loose stones? Or… would you turn every single memory into one unforgettable piece?

This throwback design is one we simply had to share again. The story hasn’t changed, but the impact certainly hasn’t faded. If you were to look up the word “unique” in the dictionary, we’re pretty sure you’d find a picture of this pendant.

Our client came to Jewellers Vault with what many would call “too much jewellery.” But to her, it was priceless. Most of the pieces had belonged to her mother, and parting with them was never an option. Some didn’t fit. Others weren’t her style. But every single one carried a memory - and made her feel closer to her mum.

A few years earlier, we had already designed a special piece for her, but even after that, she was left with a large collection of sentimental gold and gemstones… and no idea what to do next.

Her dream was simple, but powerful: to use as much of her jewellery as possible in one piece, so she never had to choose between her memories.

After sitting down together and exploring ideas, we decided a pendant would give us the space and flexibility to truly do this story justice. As the design process unfolded (and as it often does, wandered a little), we discovered something deeply meaningful to her - a love for compasses. To her, a compass symbolised guidance, direction, and finding your way.

From that moment, everything clicked.

We designed a compass as the centrepiece of the pendant, and surrounded it with the stones from her mother’s jewellery - a reminder that no matter where life leads, we are always surrounded by love and family.

Looking back on this piece still brings a tear to our eye. Not just because of how striking it is… but because of what it represents. A lifetime of memories, love, and connection - all worn close to the heart.
