The Birthstone for November is Citrine.
Citrine is a medium deep shade of golden yellow. As with all natural gemstones, the colour can vary, from stone to stone. Citrine is the yellow variety of quartz. It comes from the same family of gemstones such as Amethyst, Rose Quartz and Smokey Quartz. You may have heard of Ametrine. Ametrine is a quartz crystal where bands of amethyst and citrine have grown and bonded together. This makes a lovely colour combination.
November Birthstone Citrine has a hardness on the Moh’s scale of 7, along with other gemstones such as Agate and Iolite. The Moh’s hardness ranges from 1-10 and is a way of ranking gemstones based on their ability to scratch each other. Diamond is a 10. Sapphire a 9 and talc sits on the softest end of the scale on a 1.
The name citrine comes from the French word for lemon “citron”.
As well as being the Birthstone for November, Citrine is also the Anniversary stone for 13 years of marriage.
Citrine promotes creativity, helps with personal clarity and is believed to eliminate self-destructive tendencies. It has also been associated with values such as hope, strength, youth and health.

Citine looks brilliant set in yellow gold. The yellowness of the surrounding metal completely enhances the natural glow that a citrine possesses. I love to see a semi rub-over setting for a citrine with a sprinkle of sparkling white diamonds in a yellow gold ring. Another beautiful way to show off your citrine is a halo of diamonds completely encasing the citrine, dangling from a gorgeous gold chain.

I personally prefer to see the stunning yellow of a citrine stand out with a gorgeous white setting. I find that White Gold or Platinum allows the citrine to show off it’s beauty like a blossoming flower. White is also the best colour, in my opinion, to show off some stunning sparkly diamonds.
